Hello everyone,

Just taking a few minutes to update everyone here. I have emailed EVERY single member of the Senate Judiciary committee in the Kentucky Senate, asking them to please support bringing Senate Bill 102 to the agenda so that we can have hearings on this bill and attempt to get it out of committee. Additionally, I have emailed the Senate leadership and asked them to encourage the committee chair to place it on the agenda.

One of the methods I have used is to let them know how many people in THEIR individual senate districts could potentially be impacted by this bill. The demographic numbers are courtesy of the NIH survey, and big thanks go out to the KCDHH for compiling that data from the NIH results, it makes it much easier to lobby individuals. If you are a Kentucky resident who would like to contact their State Senator or State Representative, please get in touch with me here, and I will help you obtain the numbers of people with a hearing loss in the area where you live.

One other thing, a commenter on a previous blog post suggested I start a Facebook page for this cause. Well, I've had one in place for more than a year, dating back to my attempts to get a similar bill passed in 2009 in Kentucky. If you have not already done so, please feel free to join at the below link, we have 576 members and growing!:

Hey there
Is it possible for you to get in touch with KSD people at Danville, Ky to get them involved as well?

I'm sure there are people in Danville, Lexington and Louisville who can spread what you are doing in pressuring the senators in doing something about this?

Re: Hey there
First, thanks for commenting. Secondly, yes, we are all working together somewhat. Since I am working in conjunction with KCDHH and their commissioners, the Commissioners have a representative from that area. E-blitzes sent out asking people to contact the state reps and state senators, etc. But the going has been slow, and we are limited somewhat in involving students in lobbying efforts. I had a conversation with a person on Thursday that was very frustrating. He lives in that area and was CLUELESS about the bill, and had to show him how to access the legislative site, etc looking to contact his reps and so forth. So it is a constant struggle to educate about the issues here, since advocacy has been so limited in this state for so long. They have been far too happy to just float along and not rock the boat because of inability to reach out to people effectively due to ruralness of many of these areas. That is why I have, on many occasions, offered to help anyone reading this learn how to contact their reps. I think I am going to devote a whole post to that with links, etc., but am concerned DR will slide it over to the extras area where it is not as visible.
