Wake Up, Kentucky! Rally'Round the Cause!
Friends:

The time is now. Senate Bill #102 (sponsored by State Senator Ray Jones) has been introduced in the state legislature for more access to captioned movies in Kentucky, with a state House version (sponsored by State Representative Leslie Combs) to follow hopefully this week.....

And already, we are struggling. The rumor is that the bill, which is assigned to the Senate Judiciary committee, is being pushed down and may not get a hearing. A big reason for that? YOU. You Kentucky deaf and hard of hearing, and deaf and hard of hearing with Kentucky ties, need to contact the state legislators (NOT Congressmen, that's the national level) and let them know you want this access. Swamp their offices with phone calls and emails. If you see them in your community, corner them (NOT physically, of course), and find a way to get the message across as to how important this bill is to you and yours.

I can't do it alone. KCDHH can't do it alone. We CAN do (and are doing) a lot, but ultimately, your elected officials want to hear from YOU, whom they represent. IF they are from Northern Kentucky, they could care less what I tell them, because they have no fear of losing my vote, I can't vote for or against them, but YOU can. Same goes for every corner of Kentucky. From Pikeville to Paducah, from Covington to Corbin, now is the time. I'm working the phones, firing off the emails, and trying to call in favors, but it will be for naught if you don't do YOUR part. The caption access isn't just for me, it is for YOU, for ALL of us.

Make Caption Accessibility in Kentucky YOUR battle flag, and carry it proud and high, the battle is on and it isn't over until the last couple days of the legislative session, so don't give up. Rally 'round the flag NOW. If you aren't sure who your legislator is, please feel free to contact me here via a reply to this. Since I moderate comments here, I can get your emails and other contact infor to respond to personally without publishing them. I will help you get in touch with them, but YOU have to be the one to do it. Time to stop waiting for others to carry your water, and start carrying it yourselves folks.

One last thing, if you have not signed up for email blitzs from KCDHH, please go to their website and find out how to do so and sign up. IT's a great way to stay informed.

Eddie

FB Home Page?
Hi Eddie,

Congrats on your effort with the movie theatre captions!

I wonder if you have done any FB home page for your advocacy with Kentucky movie theatre caption access. That would be very helpful to your advocacy with listing of email addresses and names of state legislators' staffings and mailing address and listed events sponsored by state
legislators for deaf people having an opporunity to meet them in person and press for their supports and votes. :)

Re: FB Home Page?
Robert:

Thank you. Yes, I have a FaceBook page, "Supporters of Captioned Movies in Theaters". I will post a new blog piece today reminding people about it on here. I mentioned it in a blog piece last year, and I'm happy to say I have over 560 members on it! Feel free to join it! I approve requests to join it due to certain people joining for the wrong reasons last year. But feel free to stop by the page and submit a request to join. Thanks.
