Kentucky is attempting to jump to the forefront of filling the growing need for certified interpreters not only in-state, but nationally as well, as demonstrated in this article from the Louisville Courier-Journal that discusses the University of Louisville and their interpreter program they are trying to establish. Eastern Kentucky University (Go Colonels!), of which I am an alumnus, has long had the only program in the state. Some very good facts and figures about the numbers of people in Kentucky who need sign language interpreters, the numbers of graduatesm and so forth can be found in this article.
